What's Allowed?

Each passenger may bring:
- one personal item, 25 lbs. (12 kg) and 14 x 11 x 7 inches, and
- two carry-on items, 50 lbs. (23 kg) and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each
- (Pacific Surfliner: up to 28 x 22 x 11 inches each).
- Make sure you have a tag with your name and address on the outside of all your bags.

Overweight Bags
Overweight bags must be repacked so they are under 50 lbs. Boxes may be purchased at staffed stations to aid in repacking.

Excess Bags
A $20 excess baggage fee will be charged for each carry-on and personal item above the quantity and size limits. A maximum of two excess bags are permitted per passenger. Fees will be collected at the station or onboard the train if the station is unstaffed. If checked baggage is available, you can check two bags through to your final destination free of charge.

Carry-On Bags
Passengers must be able to safely lift carry-on items over their heads onto the luggage shelf. Please note that bags must fit in the sizer at the station. If they do not fit, speak with an agent or visit Amtrak.com to determine if your train offers checked baggage service.

Infant Items
Passengers traveling with infants under the age of two may bring an additional infant item onboard (stroller, diaper bag, etc.), which does not count toward the carry-on baggage or personal item limit.

Storing Items
Personal items such as a small bag or backpack must fit under the seat. Carry-on bags must be kept with you, and need to fit in the overhead racks or luggage tower. Most buses have baggage storage bins under the bus floor, and the bus driver will assist you. Do not store items in empty seats, aisles, vestibules or other areas where they may cause annoyance to other passengers or present a safety hazard.

Brightline Train

Carry-On Items
Up to two (2) complimentary carry-on items per passenger are allowed on board our trains, subject to space availability. Each complimentary carry-on item must not exceed 50 lbs. (22 kg) in weight and 24” x 16” x 10” (61 x 41 x 25 cm) or 50 linear inches (127 linear cm) in exterior dimensions. Items must fit comfortably within the overhead luggage area, or under the seat. Tagged Paid Carry-On baggage is to be placed in the baggage tower available in each train coach. (Subject to space and station availability) Items may not be stored in empty seats, aisles, vestibules or other areas where they present a safety hazard or cause annoyance to other passengers. We will determine in our sole discretion which items may impact the safety, well-being or comfort of other passengers and reserves the right to move or deny the storage of any item. Examples of these items may include garbage bags, cardboard boxes, laundry bags and plastic tubs.

Standard or Large sized baggage can be carried-on for an additional fee - see fee schedule. Standard or Large sized items must be checked at the in-station Guest Services counter and tagged 30 minutes prior to the passenger’s train departure time at the Miami and Orlando stations, and 20 minutes prior to the passenger’s train departure time at the Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach stations. Large items are allowed up to 33" x 22" x 15" (84 x 56 x 38 cm) in exterior dimensions and up to 70 lbs. (32 kg) in weight. You must be physically capable of stowing your item safely in the baggage tower and it must not block aisles, or doors, occupy patron seating or interfere with other patrons or otherwise cause a tripping hazard. Large or overweight carry-on baggage is subject to space availability.

Additional small personal items needed for the duration of the trip may be carried on the train and will not count toward the carry-on allowance. Such items include but are not limited to:

- Required medical devices and containers
- Pillows, blankets and outer garments
- Small briefcases and purses
- Umbrellas (10-15 inches -25-38 cm in length)
- Non-alcoholic liquids and food

The following items are also not counted against the per-passenger limit:

- Strollers, car seats, booster seats and/or carriers for infants or toddlers. These items must be stowed safely in the baggage tower.
- Assistive/mobility devices for individuals with a disability. If riding in your wheelchair, be sure to add this to your passenger details when booking rides. Wheelchairs can also be checked at Guest Services with no charge.

Excess baggage or baggage exceeding the weight and dimension limits will be handled as checked items and will be subject to a fee. Please refer to the fee schedule.

Checked Items
For itineraries with travel to and from the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando Stations, bags can be checked to your destination. Fees may apply for additional checked items—see fee schedule. Checked baggage is subject to space availability.

Items may not exceed 70 lbs. (32 kg.) and 33" x 22" x 15" (84 x 56 x 38 cm) or 70 linear inches (178 linear cm) in exterior dimensions. Large baggage is defined as baggage between 51-70 linear inches and/or between 51–70 lbs. No baggage in excess of 70 lbs. (32 kg) will be accepted. View fee schedule for overweight fees. One (1) wheelchair per ticketed passenger can be checked at Guest Services at no charge. Advance notice required; be sure to add to your reservation passenger details. Passengers may also choose to ride in their wheelchair.

Baggage must be checked at the in-station Guest Services counter no less than 30 minutes prior to the passenger’s train departure time. No baggage will be accepted any earlier than four (4) hours prior to departure. Baggage cut-off times are implemented to ensure baggage arrives on time to its destination. Passengers must present their items to our Guest Services team for check-in no later than the stated cut-off times.

Passengers with checked items will be issued a baggage claim ticket. Baggage will be tagged with the corresponding passenger information and destination for easy retrieval at your arrival station. Be sure to personally carry-on any important documentation (passports, Visas, I.D.), valuables, medications and items which require special handling.

We reserve the right to refuse items whose size, weight or character makes it unsuitable for transportation on the train. Checked baggage will be accepted for transportation only on trains in which a passenger is traveling. All baggage (checked and carried-on) is subject to inspection by our qualified security officers.

Alaska RailRoad Train

Checked Luggage
The Alaska Railroad offers checked baggage service. Luggage storage is NOT available at any train station. For your safety and the safety of others, only one carry-on is allowed per person. Each ticketed passenger may check two (2) pieces of luggage when traveling aboard the Alaska Railroad, and up to four pieces aboard the Aurora Winter Train (policy may not be applicable for charters). Aurora Winter Train baggage service available in Anchorage and Fairbanks only. The luggage weight limit is 50 pounds per bag. Baggage service varies by depot location. The baggage fee for bikes, excess, oversized, and overweight bags is $20.00 per item. Due to space constraints full size non-inflatable kayaks and canoes are not permitted. Deflated watercrafts may be checked for $20.00 per item.

Carry-on Luggage
One carry-on item is allowed per person. Carry-on bags may not exceed 15” x 14” x 6”. Please remember to carry on medications, cameras or other items that you will need during your train ride.

Animals
All animals must be transported in the baggage car in a kennel (provided by the passenger). There is a $20.00 fee for transporting each kennel. Only Service Animals are permitted in passenger cars.

Firearms
Firearms, including rifles and revolvers, are not allowed inside passenger coaches or depots. Firearms may be transported in the baggage car only if:

- they are unloaded;
- they are stored in a locking hard-sided case; and,
- the bolt action is removed or a trigger locking guard is applied.
- Concealed weapons are not allowed onboard any trains or in any depot. Bear Spray must be placed in checked luggage.

Hunting/Fishing
During hunting and fishing season, game and/or fish must be cleaned, packed in bags, and placed in coolers before being loaded in the bag car. Inflatable kayaks, canoes and rafts must be deflated and packed in a backpack or duffle bag.

Due to space contraints full size non-inflatable kayaks and canoes are not permitted.

Camping
Federal Railroad Administration regulations prohibit the transport of fuel, other than 5 liters or less of white gas, or 60 liters or less of kerosene, in its original container, in the bag car. Propane or other flammable fuels are not allowed in baggage cars in any amount. Kerosene and propane may be transported aboard the Glacier Discovery Train, which is outfitted with a special compartment; these fuels must be checked with the conductor at the time of boarding. Bear Spray must be placed in checked luggage.
